Hong Kong Duck (or I knew I shouldn't leave ;-)

News Update (special thanks to Alan for keeping my eyes peeled ;-)  :  Either someone ordered a LARGE Sunny-side-up duck or Avian Flu is more prominent in HK than previously thought:

Here it is in its former glory with the words of the day:

No, this is not a Photoshop image.  This is a 54 feet rubber ducky (Congratulations to the news server for failing to report whether that is height, length, or width, probably length since it is a marine vessel). Given that this thing would tower over a Star Ferry, it would probably be a very strange experience crossing the harbour close to it ;-)  Or the picture on the Duk Ling where I am being pursued by a Star Ferry against the sunset:  Imagine that was not a Star Ferry but a Giant Duck!  (Hey, what did my fortune cookie say: My personality is fueled by the fascination I feel for life).
This picture came from the CBC website; there are lots more nice pictures out there: just google Hong Kong Duck.

The artist is Florentijn Hofman from Holland.  And here is another strange 'News' reporting trend: While most major newspapers (their websites) report that this duck has visited Auckland, Sidney, Sao Paulo, Osaka, etc and go on to state that the duck is taken apart for transport, the artist's own website actually lists different sizes for the ducks of those cities.  So I'm still not sure whether all these cities were visited by the same duck or by Duck Doppelgaengers.

Although, this should answer it:  The artist's web site for St Nazaire (Me thinks these are the submarine hangars used in Das Boot ;-) . Just click on the city names on that page to see the other locations.  The St. Nazaire duck is a 26 meter duck, whereas the Osaka duck was only a 10 meter duck. Thus: Different Ducks and the myth of the 'World Travelling Duck' created by the newspapers just died of Avian Flu!
