YVR (Someone PLEASE get me out of here!)

T minus 2 hours.
/start rant/ And it can't come soon enough!  We won't even mention the food at Koho's, where they once had a very decent chef, but now seem to resort to micro-wave stuff the chef makes at home.
Highlight of the day: Cathay pacific counter staff is FRIENDLY. I have a boarding pass for a window seat in an emergency exit row (can you spell leg room?)!
This airport is amazing. You can buy anything here. Genuine BC native hand-carved art. A new iPhone. Somewhere under the counters, they probably even have sex toys with native art printed on them. Absolutely any kind of doodah or thingamajig that fulfills zero purpose or function, but is bound to be very colourful and of course, Genuine BC.
They used to have two bookstores here.  Not any more. Now you get a VERY limited selection at the news stores (See picture; Are they counting on people never returning to get their refund?)  There is one 'real' bookstore left, and it is located in the domestic terminal building.  It is owned and operated by Virgin (can you see where this is going?). The fact that they are in the domestic terminal building might explain the surprised look I got when I asked whether they had any travel guide books. Imagine: Someone wanting to buy a travel guide at an international airport!  But, they actually had some. Vancouver. Boston. Toronto.   "Vietnam?  Oh, sorry Sir, we don't have any books that cover Vietnam exclusively."  I saved myself the trouble and her the embarassment by not asking " What would it be covered under?  'The world outside Vancouver?' or maybe even 'Asia'?" Given that 95 % of the minimum wage earners in this airport are from Asia, one would think some manager would have had the decency of at least covering the countries where his/her staff comes from.  Of course, they know the places already and they're not paying them enough anyway to buy airport guide books.
Proud to be Canadian ?  NOT!
/end rant/
